Jay Matete joined MK Dons on 9 January 2026 from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee. The defensive midfielder arrived with extensive EFL experience, having previously played for Fleetwood Town, Grimsby Town, Plymouth Argyle, Oxford United and Bolton Wanderers.

Matete made his MK Dons league debut as a substitute in the 2–0 win at Accrington Stanley on 17 January 2026. He made six League Two appearances during the second half of the season before a hamstring injury in February ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
