Paul Tisdale was appointed MK Dons manager in June 2018, following the club’s relegation to League Two. Arriving after 12 highly successful years at Exeter City, Tisdale was tasked with guiding the Dons straight back to League One.

He delivered in his first season. Tisdale’s MK Dons finished third in League Two, securing automatic promotion on the final day of the 2018/19 campaign with a crucial 1–0 victory over Mansfield Town at Stadium MK. He also won the League Two Manager of the Month award for October 2018.

However, the return to League One proved far more difficult. MK Dons took just one point from their opening nine league matches, their worst run of results in the club’s history at the time. After a 3–1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers, Tisdale and the club mutually agreed to part company on 2 November 2019.
