Danny Wilson

Danny Wilson was born in Wigan on 1 January 1960 and began his playing career with his hometown club, Wigan Athletic, in the Northern Premier League. He made eight appearances for the club, scoring once, before moving to Bury.

Wilson went on to play for Chesterfield, Nottingham Forest, Scunthorpe United on loan, Brighton & Hove Albion, Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday. In 1993, he joined Barnsley as player-assistant manager before later taking on the role of manager.

In the summer of 1998, Wilson returned to Sheffield Wednesday as manager, but was dismissed the following March. In June 2000, he was appointed manager of Division Two side Bristol City on a four-year contract. His contract was not renewed at the end of the 2003–04 season after he failed to secure promotion.

In December 2004, Wilson succeeded Jimmy Gilligan as manager of the Dons. During his first season, he successfully guided the club away from relegation, although they benefited from a 10-point deduction imposed on Wrexham after the club entered receivership.

Wilson was unable to repeat that success the following season and was dismissed on 10 May 2006.
